Our Story

The Seed

About 20 years ago, after decades of trying multiple products on the market for sensitive, dry, itching, bumpy red skin, and reacting to additives and scents, I learned how to make my own skin lotion bars using all natural oils and beeswax. While studying essential oils, I discovered I could reap all their benefits by adding them into the perfect blend of carrier oils that is the Base Bar.

When I first started using the bar I found it oily, in comparison to the other body lotions on the market. However, it was not long before I realized that my skin absorbed the oils more and more after each use. Since using these bars on a daily basis, I have experienced quicker healing of pimples, burns and wounds. I no longer have the red bumps on the back of my arms, a condition I learned was called Keratosis Pilaris, that I used to have growing up and into my teens. I also discovered drastically reduced redness on my legs by using the bar as a lubricant before shaving them. I noticed how soft my skin was from the natural hydration, even at the end of the day.

I have used these bars consistently, from head to toe, over the last twenty years and have had many people actually react with shock that I’m 53 years old.

The Stem

In the summer of 2019 I attended a lakeside retreat. As a gift to the ladies who attended with me I gave them each a bar to aid in their self-care regimen. My friend and hostess asked if I could bring the bars along to another gathering. After gifting them with sampling by massaging their hands, the bars quickly found new homes, and I had special orders for more bars as well as custom orders blending their favorite essential oils.

The reactions to SKIN YUM from others has shown me that many of us are becoming more aware that we live in a toxic world, and that our health is affected by everything we ingest, inhale, and slather on our skin. It then becomes the job of our amazing liver to assimilate and do its best to dispose of those toxins, but often it is often overwhelmed by them. I lost my mom suddenly in February 2015 to liver cancer, and so liver health has become very important to me; but so has the environment.

When I decided I’d like to share this bar with the world, I researched environmentally friendly packaging products, looking for compostable and recyclable materials. I am excited to share that the entire SKIN YUM product is fully consumable and there is no plastic bottle or tube left behind; simply place the wax paper with its dissolvable label in the compost or recycle bin.

The Fruit

With the blooming of SKIN YUM I have found a product that supports healthy skin, a healthier body and a healthier environment. I am excited that the bags and boxes we use to package these bars have all been made with recycled materials. Even my display cabinets are reused store fixtures.

I have sourced the bees wax from a local Apiary that provides the purest honeycomb double-filtered capping wax that has never been boiled, and so retains the amazing benefits from antibiotic-free honeybees. I have also researched and found an extremely reputable company that provides the highest quality essential oils sourced from the native countries and areas where the plants originally grow, and that also supports these communities as well as other world aid programs.

In the last 5 years I have also been studying essential oils and how they can support our mental, emotional and energetic bodies as well, and so while I am blending and pouring all the product I play a loving healing frequency which infuses Skin Yum with more indescribable healing properties.

Everyone is unique and so I also believe in providing a product that is specific to your needs. That is why I offer custom made bars in a single oil or any blend of your choosing. I value connection and look forward to your custom orders, and requests for new products. Please go to our Facebook or Instagram page to find out where you can connect with me at the next farmers market or artisan show.

With heartfelt thanks for your interest and support - BEE YUMMY!
